MedMen opens its first medical cannabis dispensary in Florida

Multistate operator MedMen on Friday announced the opening of its first Florida medical marijuana dispensary, in West Palm Beach – the first of 12 such planned storefronts in the state.

The California-based company said in a news release it’s also planning upcoming Florida dispensaries in Orlando and Key West.

MedMen could eventually open as many as 35 dispensaries in Florida under state law. The company paid $53 million in 2018 to acquire Treadwell Simpson Partnership, one of Florida’s 14 MMJ licensees.

MedMen also is looking to open a dispensary in Miami Beach, where it has invested over $1 million in renovations for a location, but those plans have likely been put on hold due to zoning restrictions and a subsequent lawsuit between MedMen and the city that was filed in March.

A company spokeswoman said Friday there’s no update to that situation yet or any planned storefront opening date.

The West Palm Beach dispensary opening marks yet another expansion of MedMen’s footprint, which already includes medical and recreational cannabis storefronts in Arizona, California, Illinois, Nevada and New York, according to the company’s website. MedMen also has a store planned in Massachusetts.

MedMen is traded on the Canadian Securities Exchange as MMEN and on the U.S. over-the-counter markets as MMNFF.
