The SUDDS Coalition is a group of volunteers, started by young people, who address issues of drinking and drug use. It includes community members from local schools, law enforcement, city government, faith based organizations, business and civic groups. The members educate the public on current trends in substance abuse to make our communities safer and save lives. Meetings are held monthly the third Thursday of the month at 8:30 a.m. at the Guidance Center. Meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. The vision of SUDDS is for a community free of underage drinking and drugs in which its members are knowledgeable about the consequences of their use. They host drug awareness nights, speak with legislators about current drug issues, visit alcohol and tobacco retailers, participate in community events, and hold workshops to inform the community, especially parents of new drug trends such as marijuana oils. The SUDDS Coalition is supported by The Guidance Center and funded through the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority and the Drug Free Communities Support Program.
